Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam constitute Puducherry. On the borders are Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh states of south India. Puducherry situates 135 Kilometers from Chennai and can be reached through private and government run coaches.

Puducherry is home to famous poets. Subramania Bharti and Bharathidasan are the poet's residents of Puducherry. Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville make Puducherry a famous place and preferred tourist destination in south India. Aurobindo Gosh was born in Kolkata, a freedom fighter, well educated through his divine vision became a teacher, philosopher and yogi. He attained his vision whilst in prison and was joined by a co-worker and fellow, Adept Mirra Alfassa, later known as the mother.

Festivals held in Puducherry reflect its western connection during French rule. <> The mask festival - Masquerade, during March-April is the festival of costume and masks. <> Bastille Day on 14th of July is celebrated by the Indian and French soldiers parading on national anthems of India and France. <> Maasi Magam festival is during full moon period in march. Amongst all other local festivals is the car festival one of them of the union territory.
