	Location: Delhi - Jaipur highway ( 46 km from Delhi) Founded by: Dr. Salim Ali Season: September to March is the best time to visit. This park is best visited in winters, when a large number of migratory birds come here. In the old map and district gazetteer of Gurgaon district, this area is shown as marshy land having a ‘salt pan’ where water accumulates during rains and dries our during summer. A number of organisms like crustaceans, fish and insects thrive during floods which attract a number of birds to this area. Its sanctuary potential was first identified by an enthusiastic bird watcher, Mr. Peter Jackson. He convinced Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, of the need for giving protection to this area keeping in view it’s importance and potential, the area covering 359 acres was declared a bird sanctuary in 1971 and was upgraded to the status of National Park in 1991 by Haryana Government. News of the month.
	New anti-terror ammo: Chilli grenades & energy bars. The Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed a new kind of hand grenade for the military and police commandos to force out terrorists holed up in buildings and nab them live. The grenade will help them to smoke out terrorists from their hiding without any bloodshed and save hostages. The 'chilli smoke grenade' will irritate eyes, skin and respiratory traits, inflicting an immediate breathing difficulty and swelling of eyes to force the persons to come out in the open. The device that uses 'Oleoresin Capsicum' was developed for use by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir and the North East for encounter with the terrorists who hole up in buildings during encounters with security forces. It is claimed to be much more effective and safe than lobbing teargas shells, which may result in casualties. Yet another help in fighting the terrorists has come from the 'energy bars' developed by DRDO that can ensure the commandos, who have no time to eat or drink, stay alert and energised during operations like the one in Mumbai on November 26.
